“Why would a good God let pain exist, the innocent suffer, or let natural disasters happen?”
I’ll be honest. I’ve never had a perfect, all encompassing answer. And what I do know I suffering is a part of the human experience.
Bug for us Christians we know that pain has a direct connection to the fact evil exists. But if evil exists that means that there is something good that exists. Whenever there is evil it leaves the hole in us saying something is lacking, something isn’t the way it’s supposed to be.
One of the reasons we get frustrated by suffering is because we know that there is an intrinsic worth, and the only reason people have worth is because they are creations of the one who is of ultimate worth. God. The only people that can rationally rationally talk about pain is the theist. Because without one who gives absolute worth, there is no value.
Now why does God let pain and suffering happen. Still, I don’t have the perfect answer. But that’s because I’m not the creator, sustainer, and redeemer of this world. My finite mind can not give a fully satisfactory answer. But what I do know is this.
1) God can and does use our pain and suffering to draw us near to him. He will use it to open our eyes to the only one who can make things whole.
2) God used the most unjust pain and suffering to give the greatest ever given to man. His son, nailed to a tree, for our good.
